Release time:

2024-03-25

Calcium carbonate is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula CaCO₃, commonly known as chalk, limestone, or stone powder. It is one of the most abundant substances on Earth, found in minerals such as aragonite and calcite, as well as in rocks like chalk, limestone, marble, and travertine, and it also constitutes the primary component of the skeletons and shells of certain animals. Widely distributed in nature, calcium carbonate serves as an important building material and industrial raw material.

Calcium carbonate is typically a white, odorless crystal that is essentially insoluble in water but readily reacts with acids to release carbon dioxide. It exists in two crystalline forms: the orthorhombic system and the hexagonal system, with a density of 2.93 g/cm³. Calcium carbonate can dissolve in water containing ammonium salts or ferric oxide, but it is insoluble in alcohols.

Calcium carbonate from Hezhou is widely used in industry, serving as a reinforcing agent to enhance the hardness and strength of materials such as cement, glass, ceramics, and rubber. In pharmaceutical manufacturing, it is employed as a tablet excipient and also as a therapeutic agent for osteoporosis. Moreover, calcium carbonate from Hezhou can be utilized as a food additive to regulate the pH of foods; for instance, it may be added to products like milk and bread.

It should be noted that, although calcium carbonate is widely used in various fields, its particle size and morphology must be carefully controlled during application to ensure product quality. In addition, the maximum allowable dosage should not be exceeded to prevent harm to human health and the environment.
